TEFILLIN

I wrote these thoughts regarding Tefillin during my trip to Israel, December 2003.

Enjoy.

When I put Tefillin on my arm I could see that it looked DEAD.  Like a  DEAD and lifeless arm.  Like completely pale and dead.  I hope that by wearing the Tefillin my arm will come back to life.  It looked strange seeing a lifeless corpse like arm.  Very strange.

Sometimes I feel like I actually died.  Which spiritually I probably did.  I became just a body, a corpse without a soul.  Perhaps my soul is coming back.  Perhaps my life is coming back.  Perhaps my soul is returning.

Prior to g-d giving man a soul there were humanoids -- beings without souls. That is what I had become.  A lifeless being without a soul.  A humanoid.  Wearing Tefillin helps bring the spiritual flow back into the body.  It helps bring the soul back.

Is it possible for man who is born with a soul to revert to a humanoid within the course of his life through the mistakes he made?

The soul remains, it just gets buried and covered almost to the point where it is for all practical purposes dead.  But G-d keeps the soul alive a little bit in order to provide an opportunity for the person to do Teshuva!!

If a person does Teshuva -- the soul has an opportunity to shine through and overcome the smut and garbage that was keeping it buried.

The soul that was hidden can shine again once more.  This time even brighter and more powerful.  The soul of a bal Teshuva has the opportunity to mend itself and grow spiritually to new heights.
